Design Studio 2

Project 1- Famous Architects, Fabulous Houses – Diagrammatic Abstraction

We were required to ‘learn from precedents’ by interpretation and exploration of solids, planes, lines and frames in architectural design in a group of 8. We were asked to investigate how spaces are created from the making of architectural elements: architectonics. The house that we were assigned to study was the "Archarapan House" by Boonlert Hemvijitraphan. We had to study the drawings and construction of the building to find out how it was designed according to precedents like its air ventilation, massing and more. During the project, we met challenges as this was quite challenging for us to explore the maximum out from the "Less is More" and simplicity in architectural form language. However, we can see the beauty of this piece of building is being hide within the details and intangible qualities of the space. Our final product consist of models representing each precedent topic and also proper documentation on the precedent studies. It was overall an eye opening experience as we got to learn how to view a house differently and realize how these houses are not just houses but have something more to it. Would like to acknowledge the fruitful learning from Ar. Nani Zain (Our Tutor) and Dr. Robert Powell (Special Lecture Guest), who shared his opinions and knowledges in the Modern Thai House and Tropical Architecture to us. Hopefully, in future there's more projects like this one, as I believe that in order to strive for the best, no matter in personal growth or future career path, ones always do something being loved and will never give up!

Project 2- GAZEBO- Taman Tugu Negara

In this project, we were required to design 2 gazebos of both passive and active spaces  for Taman Tugu Negara. We were grouped into groups of four for this assignment. My group came up with the concept of gazebos, as the token of appreciation of the nature and the soldiers' sacrifications as a return of human building hardscape to suit in Taman Tugu Negara. We managed to produce 2 gazebos according to our concept. Through this assignment, we managed to learn the concept of simple space planning requirement of a gazebo (with a maximum volume of 3x3m ) in relations to the architectural languages from the previous assignment.

The Weekend Lodging

For our final assignment in Design Studio, we were required to design a weekend lodging in a specific site in Kl Eco Forest Park. We were required to create a design that caters towards the client's needs and also fits into the site context.  Emphasis was given to the interpretation and synthesis of the user, site and function in architectural design. We were required to do a detail site analysis before starting our design process of our weekend lodging. After conducting  our site visit, we analysed our site  and designed our lodging according to our site analysis in order to create a unique and special weekend lodging that fits into the site. We were required to design according to precedents that we've learned in our first assignment as well. I've managed to produce a weekend lodging named "SYMBIOSIS". It talks about commensalism living in between nature and human and built environment. Architecture, can be stand alone itself, but doesn't mean it must destroy nature at its own. It should entangled with nature and built environment in consideration of human living.
